New program: October 2009
The Foundation is sponsoring a new theatrical
production entitled the “Nanas and the Poppa's," ...ain't what they
used to be. Talented grandparents sharing their personal stories and singing the
music of their time.
Our Purpose is 1) To raise
consciousness about the importance of Grandparenting, and to emphasize
grandparents exclusive roles as “living ancestor,” and “family
historian” (see “The Grandparent Guide”), in an exciting and entertaining
way.
2) To demonstrate the diversity of Grandparenting, and
show that modern grandparents “ain’t what they used to be:” combatting
aging stereotypes.
3) To create and develop the project in Ojai, and
eventually disseminate a protocol that can be adapted by organizations and
agencies, schools, religious institutions, etc.
for use by local performers for specific audiences.
The show, scheduled for performance in october 2009, is conceived and produced
by Carol Kornhaber, and written and directed by Betsy Randle. The project
is funded by sponsors, donors, and contributions.
Request from Dr. Kornhaber
Considering
the state of our world, environmentally, culturally, philosophically... ad
infinitum, it is more imperative than ever that grandparents do not sit
idly by, but rather apply their wisdom, experience and life perspective...what I
call "Grandparent Power"... to change the world for the better. This
is what "Grand" stewardship means. Today, I am adding a new role
for grandparents to the roles I have already defined. Grandparents as
Stewards of Future Generations: elders. selflessly working individually and
together, to help make the world a better place for all who come after.
As I continue to
address this issue, and to create an agenda for grandparent action, I
would like to hear your thoughts on the matter.
